Memorize Commercial Copy: Video Lesson for Kids and Teens
In this acting video lesson, Will Doughty at 3-2-1- Acting Studios uses a rhythm exercise to help child and teen actors memorize commercial copy in a really fun way!
Here are three keys to standing out at your next commercial audition.
- Let your personality shine!
This rhythm exercise is so valuable because it helps teen actors get off the page and into the moment! Commercial casting directors love to see when your eyes light up, and you are really excited about what you are saying. By doing this rhythm exercise, you start thinking less about the words you are saying, and your personality comes out.
- Make every time your first time!
It’s also important with commercial copy that it doesn’t sound rehearsed. This is probably one of the trickiest things with commercial copy. The goal is for it to sound authentic and meaningful. When you mix up the way you prepare your copy and try out fun approaches, the copy becomes more flexible for you.
- Go for it!
The last reason I love this exercise is because you have to stay with the beat. That means, when it’s your turn, you have to go for it! If you wait, you’ll miss your spot, so you just have to dive in. This is great for kids to practice because some of the my most talented actors were very shy at first and held back. And when they went for it, amazing things would happen. So at your next audition: give it all you got and go for it!!
